UPDATE: This post made it to Tastespotting!
1/2 cup chopped ginger
2 cups sugar
4 thin jalapeno slices
4 basil sprigs
4 ounces Gin
1 1/2 lime juice
1 ounce coconut cream
1 ounce ginger syrup
Add chopped ginger to 1/2 quart water and bring to a boil.
Add 2 cups of sugar and bring back to a boil. Reduce hat and simmer for 30 minutes.
Strain and refrigerate.
Muddle 2 jalapeno slices and 2 basil sprigs in a mixing glass.
Add remaining ingredients, fill with ice and shake.
Strain into ice-filled glasses.
Garnish with the remaining jalapeno slices and basil sprigs.
I’ve never tried jalapeno in a drink before and I was feeling adventurous. I was really surprised that you don’t really get any heat from the peppers, just the flavor. It’s a very layered and sophisticated drink. I highly recommend it!
