Growing up on the east coast, fall was all about apples. I’ve never had apples as juicy and sweet as the ones that grew locally near my hometown. Those apples made the best apple cider. Now that I live in Southern California, I’ve searched and searched and found that during the fall and winter months, Trader Joe’s is the only retailed that has a cider that can even come close. I’ve lightened up the calories for this cocktail by cutting the cider with black tea. The spiced rum makes it a great cocktail to sip on while you’re watching a hockey game (go sabres!) or tailgating at a football game (go bills!) and you need to stay warm.

Bottoms Up | Spiced Apple Black Tea

Serving Size: 2

2 cups of water

1 Cinnamon Stick

1 Whole Star Anise

3 Whole Cloves

3 Whole Black Pepper

1/4 cup Honey

2 Ceylon Black Tea bags

1 cup Apple Cider

1/2 cup Spiced Rum

Add water, cinnamon stick, anise, cloves, and pepper to a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Bring to a boil and let simmer for 5 minutes.

Remove from the heat, add the tea bags and let steep for about 5 minutes.

Remove the tea bags and then add the cider and honey to the pan.

Turn the heat back on to medium. Let cook until hot.

Add the spiced rum right before serving. Stir to combine.

Remove the cinnamon, anise, cloves, and black pepper before serving. Serve hot.
