This dish looks way more complicated than it actually is. If you can chop, you can cook this dish. It’s just a matter of throwing almost all of the ingredients into a casserole dish and then let it bake. They are almost caramelized when they are done cooking. It’s especially good with a steak.

Sweet Onion Gratin
This 6-ingredient side dish is a great way to showcase sweet or Vidalia onions. It’s the perfect side dish for a juicy steak!
Recipe type: Side Dish
Serves: 4-6 (as a side)
  • Cooking Spray
  • 4 Sweet Onions (or Vidalia), halved and then sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Sage, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (vegan or non-dairy butter is fine)
  • ¼ cup Fresh Breadcrumbs (blend a few pieces of sliced of bread)
  1. Spray a 1⅕ liter casserole dish cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl, combine the onions, sage and flour.
  3. Pour the onion mixture into the baking dish.
  4. Dot with butter, cover and then bake at 425 degrees for about 45 minutes.
  5. Top with breadcrumbs and bake 20 more minutes.
  6. Serve hot.
